The Saints are Coming

U2 and Green Day teamed up and did this cover of "The Saints Are Coming" at the Super Dome when they had that big blow out. The song was such a hit, they made this video. Most of you already know that I can't say enough good things about the Irish Prophet and his band, but he has done it again! This video shows what the two bands feel should have happened after Hurricane Katrina. Our troops are shown as redeployed from Iraq to New Orleans to render aid and drop food. It is a haunting image, one that very much could have happened, but didn't. Please watch, even if only for entertainment, but hopefully it will inspire our country to demand our government do things differently in the future.

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful for all of you, my loyal few readers! I am also thankful for my family. I got to see many of my cousins this weekend it was time well needed and well spent. I am blessed with the coolest cousins, aunts and uncles, and grandparents the world has ever known. I am so proud to get to say I'm related to them!

The Way I See it #153

If you've been to Starbucks in the past two years, you've gotten a quote of some sort on your cup. Sometimes, they are smarmy and propagandistic. Sometimes, they are worthwhile. I like mine from this morning:

"Is art entertainment? Art teaches us about who we are. Entertainment tells us who to be. Art is a public service. Entertainment is a private product. Art opens our minds. Entertainment thinks for you. Art is publicly offered. Entertainment is publicly traded. Art is the words we wish to say, but, lack the language to say it."

-Justin Dillon. Musician of the band Tremolo.

I pretty much agree with him. Art is a public service, but I think it can also be entertainment. I also think entertainment can sometimes be art. For example, Pollack is entertaining and insightful to me. I also regard the movie "Shakespeare in Love" as art due to it's production design and acting.

Have a good Sunday :)

We go together like peas and carrots.

Chavis and I were discussing some of our favorite TV shows and movies and what we do while we watch them. An interesting theme came up: food.
There are certain movies that when I watch, I have to have certain things to eat. Or, at least I crave them the whole time. For example, back in high school when I saw "As Good as it Gets," I had a really good Dr. Pepper and amazing butter popcorn. So, now when I watch that movie, I always get Dr. Pepper and butter popcorn.
I love the show "The Office." One of my favorite episodes is when Michael burns his foot in his Foreman grill and Dwight gets a concussion and vomits all over his windshield. When I first saw that episode, I was eating some really good chicken quesadillas from Playa del Pueblo (a local Tex-Mex establishment). So, now whenever I watch my DVD of "The Office," and specifically watch that episode, I really have an urge to go buy those same chicken quesadillas.
There are so many more. Like when I watch Braveheart and have to have chocolate chip cookies. Or, when I watch "A Fish Called Wanda" and fix my ever satisfying snack of chocolate milk and cheez-its.

What are some of your eating/movie eccentricities?
